differences in mean platelet volume and platelet count between children with simple and complex febrile seizures
Authors
abstract
objective: the aim of our study was to find the relationship of mpv (mean platelet volume) levels and platelet counts as markers of inflammation between simple and complex febrile seizures. methods: in this retrospective comparative study, we investigated the recordings of 356 children between 5 months and 6 years with diagnosis of simple and complex febrile seizure (sfs&cfs;) between march 2011 and december 2015. results: mean age was similar in two groups. the mpv of the cfs group (8.32±0.48fl) was lower than that of the sfs group (8.58±0.34fl) but this difference was not significant statistically (p=0.071). the platelet count of the cfs group (315.03×10 3 ±117.17×10 3 ) was higher than that of sfs group (291.82×10 3 ±87.49×10 3 ) but there was no significant statistical difference (p=0.082). conclusion: in this study, we evaluated differences of mpv levels and platelet count between children with sfs and cfs as markers of inflammation. we didn’t find significant differences between two groups. so, further studies about this idea should be performed.

OBJECTIVE The relationship between iron deficiency anemia and febrile seizures (FSs) were examined in several studies before. The aim of our study is to find out the differences regarding iron deficiency anemia, demographic characteristics and mean platelet volume (MPV) which is an inflammatory marker between simple and complex febrile seizure groups. METHODS In this study, the authors invest...

Background: Stroke is known to be the third most prominent cause of death in the developing countries and the most common debilitating neurologic disease. This study aimed to investigate the association of platelet count (PC) and mean platelet volume (MPV) index with various stroke types. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on patients over the age of 18 years who presented wit...

Background Febrile seizure is the most common seizure disorders. Febrile seizure is divided into two groups of simple and complex seizures. The aim of this epidemiological study was to assess the risk factors involved in the incidence of febrile seizures between the children referred to Besat hospital in the city of Sanandaj (Iran). Materials and Methods The present paper is a cross-sectional...

OBJECTIVES To determine the role of hemogram parameters such as platelet count (PLT), mean platelet volume (MPV), and the MPV/PLT ratio in predicting the risk of postoperative vomiting (POV) in children after tooth extraction under deep sedation. METHODS A total of 100 American Society of Anesthesiology Classification I and II pediatric patients who underwent tooth extraction procedures under...

OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate serum selenium levels and mean platelet volume in children who experience simple febrile convulsion. METHODS The study comprised 42 patients diagnosed with simple febrile convulsions and a control group of 30 healthy children. Blood samples were taken following a febrile convulsion. Selenium levels in the serum of both the patients and control subjects w...
